Stories That Inspire
Three trees on a hill, in the woods told each other stories that inspire, stories as heard from the birds of the air. “Did you hear what happened to the seeds of that tree of heaven the winds carried away?” asked the oldest tree.
“Oh I remember the tree was so sad for her seeds when the winds carried them away. What happened?” replied the middle tree.
“Well according to the birds, the wind scattered the seeds all over the forest, in the villages and even the big city!” said the oldest.
“Oh what a tragedy!” said the youngest tree.
“No. Not a tragedy friend. Great News! Now offspring of that tree of heaven have sprung up all over the countryside, in this very forest and in the big city. Offsprings of that tree have become a safe haven for weary travelers who need a break from the sun, a place for picnics and beautiful conversations. That gust of wind blessed that tree of heaven!”
“To think the tree of heaven was so distraught when the winds came! What an inspirational story!” the middle tree said.
Three trees on a hill, in the woods discussed their dreams, “hang on to your dreams,” they encouraged each other and told stories that inspire. “Life may throw you a curveball, it may thwart your dreams for a while, at some point your dream may seem impossible, but hang on to your dreams,” the oldest tree said to the young ones.
Dreams Fed By Stories That Inspire
The first tree said, “someday, I hope to be a treasure chest. I pray to be filled with the rarest of gems, I hope to be decorated with intricate carvings and displayed for all to see my wonder and splendor.” The second tree said, “I will be a mighty ship someday. I will carry kings and queens across the waters, and sail to all corners of the earth. All who sail in me will feel safe because of the strength of my hull.” The third and oldest tree said, “I hope to be the tallest, oldest and straightest tree in this forest. I pray that people will see my magnificence, my tall reaching branches and think of God and the heavens, and how close to them I am reaching. I want to be the greatest tree of all time and I want to be always remembered.”
Two trees on a hill, in the woods, discussed their dreams and encouraged each other with stories that inspire. They occasionally discussed their friend and hoped she was living her dream of becoming a treasure chest.
One day, a woodsman came into the woods, he made a beeline for the spot where he had cut the finest tree decades earlier. To his delight and amazement, there, along the stump of the first tree he’d cut earlier stood the two other trees. They had grown bigger, taller and sturdier.
“This is such a strong tree,” said the woodsman, “I should be able to sell it at the shipyard.”
So the woodsman chopped off another tree; the second one. The tree was happy because it knew it was on it’s way to becoming a mighty ship.
A Dream Derailed…
At the shipyard, to the disappointment of the tree, instead of a mighty ship, it was decided its width and girth was only good for a small boat. The tree hated being just an ordinary small boat. Day and night it mourned its dream of ever carrying kings and queens, and of ever traveling all the corners of the earth. All the hope inspired by the stories of inspiration exchanged with friends began to fade.
The tree resigned itself to ferrying fisherfolk day after day, and it eventually pushed its grandiose dreams to the deep recesses of its mind. The smell of fish, the weight and coarse feel of fish nets, the language of fishermen and the baskets and bargaining tongues of fishmongers replaced dreams of robes of silk and golden goblets.
A Taste Of Greatness
One day, after a long night of futile fishing expedition, the boat sat bobbing peacefully on the shallow edge of a lake. A man got in and ordered the master of the boat to put out a little from shore.
“Well who is this that orders my master around?” wondered the boat.
Even more shocking, the master of the boat complied.
The man sat down and spoke at length to a very attentive crowd. When he was done talking, he gave Simon Peter another order, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in another boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
Then The Man said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
“Who is this man?” the boat wondered again.
Carrying The King
The boat changed masters and was sent to another lake.
One day, The Man came on the boat again, he spoke to a large crowd again. He told stories about a farmer who sowed a seed, talked about a mustard seed, about what God’s kingdom is like. The stories seemed hard to understand but the people stayed and listened anyway.
“Who is this man?” the boat wondered again and again.
When evening fell, The Man came back to the boat, this time accompanied by his followers and other boats. They began to sail across the water, and the man laid down to sleep. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
But The Man was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And The Man said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
It was in that moment that the little fishing boat knew that it had carried a king of whose calibre there was none. A king who commanded and quieted the raging sea. A man who could still the sea!
The second tree, a little fishing boat, realized its dream! It carried the King of Kings!

What an awesome story! So beautifully written from a perspective you wouldn’t think of for those infamous stories of Jesus. And portrays how our dreams just may be a tad different from what we expected.
Yes. I love stories that inspire. And yes I love to write from perspectives that are very different. Glad you enjoyed it
I love this continuation of your previous story about the tree that was disappointed not to be a treasure chest, only to become the manger. Might there be a third part to this story? I can’t wait.

We have a beautifully illustrated version of this story that we pull out every Easter. We like to keep it on the coffee table as a reminder that even though our paths may be different than we intend for them to be, they all lead to something important, even if we can’t see it until it happens.
Such beautiful writing! Enjoyed your story!
These are special stories that remind us to remain open to possibilities. Sometimes we don’t see what our gifts are. I’m looking forward to part III.
Great story! Can’t wait for the next installment!
