One fine day, an old, wise Cherokee chief sat down to teach his very young grandson about the intricacies of the human heart and about life.
“There’s a fight going on inside me,” he says to the young boy, “a fierce fight between two wolves.”
“One of the wolves is evil. Very evil. It’s full of ill-will, rage, greed, self-pity and false pride. But the other wolf is good. It is full of beauty, kindness, humility, love and joy.”
“This very fight is going on inside you and everyone else on the face of the earth.”
The grandson sat quietly for a while, and he took time to ponder the old man’s words, the he asked, “Grandfather, which of the wolves will win?”
The old man smiled and said, “The one you feed.”
Moral of the story:
We are all, each and every single one of us, capable of good and evil. We have a choice of which road to travel, and it is our responsibility to own the reality that we are capable of both evil and good, and then make the choice to nurture the good in us.
