“When we lend a hand gracefully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.
Adwoa Korang
A mighty tree stood regal and imposing in the rainforest. Its roots were firmly rooted in the soil, the trunk, thick with age strength. The mighty tree, an aged mahogany. reached for the sky, green leaves basking in the golden glory of the morning sun, sending down nutrition and vitality, the tree was indeed blessed and content.
On the floor of the rainforest, under the mahogany, grew a twining Honeysuckle. The poor Honeysuckle struggled to compete with the likes of the mighty tree for sunlight in the dense forest, and so it crawled on the forest floor taking what sun it could get and getting by as best as it could.
A Cry For Help… A Helping Hand
The honeysuckle became poorly, its leaves yellowed and began to wither. As it lay dying on the rich forest floor, the Honeysuckle cried in a weak, thin voice, “help me.”
The mighty Mahogany heard the frail cry for help and answered, “who is that, what do you need?”
“It is me, Honeysuckle, I need sunlight else I die!” The twining plant answered.
“Climb up my trunk. Allow me lend a hand, to help you get to the sun.”
But the Honeysuckle was too frail to climb all the way up the mighty tree. And so the Mahogany let it sap nutrition from its lowest branch. As the Honeysuckle regained strength it began winding its way u the mighty tree, towards the sun.
Alas, the twining Honeysuckle reached the sun! It didn’t need to sap food from the Mahogany anymore! It made its own food and grew green and beautiful. Then it began to bloom, sweet scented, beautiful orange and cream petals sprung out and crowned the Mahogany with splendor. Together, the Mahogany and the Honeysuckle created quite the spectacle!
Birds and bees and animals of all kinds visited the Mahogany to marvel at the crown of beautiful petals. They said, “how lucky you are, to be so big and strong and now to be blessed with such a beautiful crown!” What they did not know was the crown came about because the big mighty tree helped a small dying vine.
The Lesson Here is… Lend A Hand!
Ask for help. No one has it all. Ask.
Lend a helping hand when you are in a position to. Mother Theresa had it right when she famously said, “helping hands are better than praying lips.” Lend a hand to someone in need today.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive” – Jesus.

I hope you heard me loud then. Lol Lend a helping hand!
Hi Missgorang, I like your short allegorical story. Never be too proud to ask for help. I like how you kept the moral lesson short and to the point, not preachy. Wishing you the best.
Thank you Lorie. The moral lesson is we should all be community helpers! Thanks for visiting us
Your writing is beautiful, it takes you and time stops, if only for a brief moment.
I am glad it ‘took you away’ for a while. Thanks for paying us a visit
Beautiful! Love the dialogue ^.^
Thanks Kayslee. I believe dialogue makes a story come to life.
What a beautiful story! I loved how the tree decided to help.
[…] The Mighty Tree and The Twining Honeysuckle – A Little Help Goes A Long Way […]
Beautiful lesson. Especially when we are feeling discouraged or down, lifting another up is the greatest form of service that benefits everyone involved.
Yes. When we lend a hand of help, it feeds our own souls.
I needed to read this today! I’m always happy to lend a hand but struggle to ask for help.
I hope this story encourages you to learn t ask when you need help. Everybody needs a little help sometime.
Such a great message! I love your stories!
Thank you Cindy. We all have to lend a helping hand at some point. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Your stories are always so powerful and beautiful. I love helping others when I can but I need to learn to ask for help when I need it more as well.
Yes. Please learn how to ask and accept help. We all need it in our lives.
Amazing! That quote from Mother Theresa is powerful… and timeless. We can all learn to lend a helping hand a little more often.
It is one of my favorites. “Helping hands are better than praying lips.
Beautiful story – thanks for sharing. There’s certainly a message here for the world to read!
Love this…lift each other up!?
There is something so rewarding that comes from helping those in need. Mother Theresa will always be one of my favorite people of all time. She lived her life to help others. If only I could be half the person she was.
Love it! I always struggle to ask for help.
I don’t know who is more blessed…the recipient or the giver!
Great reminder to be open & available for those in need!
What a wonderful message here with your post. I love this quote that you started with:
“When we lend a hand gracefully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”
Great post!
Love this! Asking for help is something that society has frowned upon but it can be so beautiful (and necessary). I know how much I struggled with this when I first had a child. As though I was supposed to be able to do it all. Not possible and also much more joyous for everyone when we allow our village to help.
Amazing story! I love how you seamlessly weave lessons into your tales.
You just never know how much your helping hand can mean to the one in need.
Yes, beautiful lesson about the importance of helping each other! We are all here to walk each other home.
