Dream! And Hang On To Your Dreams
Three trees on a hill, in the woods discussed their dreams, “keep hope alive,” they encouraged each other. “Life may throw you a curveball, it may thwart your dreams for a while, at some point your dream may seem impossible, but keep hope alive,” the oldest tree said to the young ones.
The first tree said, “someday, I hope to be a treasure chest. I pray to be filled with the rarest of gems, I hope to be decorated with intricate carvings and displayed for all to see my wonder and splendor.” The second tree said, “I will be a mighty ship someday. I will carry kings and queens across the waters, and sail to all corners of the earth. All who sail in me will feel safe because of the strength of my hull. The third and oldest tree said, “I hope to be the tallest, oldest and straightest tree in this forest. I pray that people will see my magnificence, my tall reaching branches and think of God and the heavens, and how close to them I am reaching. I want to be the greatest tree of all time and I want to be always remembered.”
“Keep hope alive!” They would always say to each other in unison.
Years passed, the trees held on to their dreams, they hoped and prayed. One day, a woodsman came into the woods, he inspected the first tree and decided it would make good wood to sell to the carpenter. So the woodsman chopped off the first tree. The tree was happy because it knew the carpenter would make it into a treasure chest.
Derailed Dreams Do Not Signal The End: Keep Hope Alive
The others trees were delighted on their friend’s behalf, “hang on to your dreams and keep hope alive,” they reminded their friend as the woodsman carried it away.
“I will, I will,” their friend responded in excitement.
The carpenter was indeed interested in the wood and readily bought it from the woodsman. The tree couldn’t be happier, “the feeling of success on the way to achieving it,” it said to itself, “alas I am going to become a treasure chest.”
And so the carpenter set to work, but instead of a treasure chest, he made an animal feed box! This was not at all what the tree had hoped for. For a long time the tree seethed with anger. Then it marinated in sadness. And when it was finally filled with hay and placed in a barn, the tree resigned itself to its fate. “What is there to keep hope alive for?” the tree asked itself whenever it remembered the mantra it had recited with its friends years earlier.
For years and years the tree served as manger for livestock on a farm, and with time, forgot its dream and aspiration of ever holding anything rare and precious. “Now that I’m old and reeking of animal urine and drool, who would possibly put anything precious in me?” And so the tree gave up.
Dreams Do Come True, Sometimes Not As Envisioned
Then one day, a man and a woman came into the barn. The woman was heavily pregnant and clearly very uncomfortable. Not long after entering the barn, the woman gave birth. The man wished he could have made a crib for The Baby but the manger would have to do for now. The couple wrapped The Newborn in swaddling clothes and placed Him on the hay in the manger.
The tree could feel the importance of The Child it was carrying. Then it remembered its dream to carry the rarest most precious gem. This was not jewelry, but a living, breathing human; Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Shepherds visited and told wondrous stories of singing hosts of angels. Kings visited with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh; they came to worship Him.
The little tree in the barn, a mere manger, carried The Savior of the world.

I am a mom, wife, believer in God and a lover of stories. I love storytelling because I believe it is a potent means to inspire and educate.
Yes! We must not let go or give up on our dreams. What is meant for us will eventually find its way to us.
What is meant to be will be.
What a wonderful story, especially for the season.
Beautiful post! I always say if we make our dreams a goal that we will never fail at them because one day we will meet goals and succeed!
The one tree may be still out there realizing it’s dream!
Awesome post! Never give up on your dreams!
We have to keep dreaming and aim for those dreams!
Great post – it’s true that you should never give up on your dreams; however, God may have something better planned for you in order to achieve that dream. This story is an example of the better plan!
What a beautiful story! Our lives may not seem like they are heading in the direction we want, but there is a plan and purpose for everything
Sometimes when we manifest our dreams & goals we get disappointed bc it didn’t turn out exactly as we had dreamed. But what we need to remember is that sometimes, things don’t turn out exactly as you had hoped and maybe it will be even better? Great story <3
Great message. Have to keep pursuing our dreams.
I love these stories! It’s easy to give up on dreams because of a bump on the road, but we shouldn’t!
There is purpose in everything. Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers, right! What we think we want isn’t always what is the best thing for us to receive or achieve.
Love the moral of the story, so true – always strive for your dreams, you might get something better!
Lovely story with an important message to all of us!
This is an absolutely beautiful story! I love that you told it from the perspective of the wood and it’s beautiful role in the Christmas miracle! This made my heart smile! Dreams don’t always appear the way we expect, but if we’re patient, miracles can happen!
Wonderful post! Keep dreaming the dreams!

So true!
Beautiful story! I love how sometimes something so much better comes along than what we dreamed of. I like staying open to possibilities!
Great message! I had a major change in my career (not by choice), but it’s working out wonderfully so far.
